Stop Putting Stock in MTV Celebrities

Generally speaking, I rarely give one iota about celebrity news. Their personal lives simply don’t interest me in the same way so many other Americans are. I also despise giving the more foolish ones any attention, but for the sake of this blog it’s going to be a necessary evil to jump to a broader point.

If you’ve paid any attention to recent celebrity breakdowns you’ve undoubtedly seen the shit storm one time MTV star, Tila Tequila, has stirred up. First she claims Paul Walker’s death was actually murder. Then she more recently went off on rant which essentially boils down to, the Nazi’s weren’t as bad as people make them out to be. Frankly I have no interest in reciting her verbatim, because to do so would surely cause me to collapse on the floor in a violent rage induced seizure. If you would like to read what she has to say you can do so on a number of sites. This is the internet after all.

Now I don’t care what she said. She’s never proven herself to be somebody worth listening to and recent events only further prove this. What really bothers me is one simple question. Why is this a story? This a person who has never be known as profoundly intelligent. She’s a model turned MTV reality personality. Which I think we all can agree is not a place conducive to anything of substantial merit.

So why do we bother? Why do we listen?

Stop putting stock in anything these sort of people have to say, as if they were the next Nelson Mandela. They’re a non-factor when it comes to anything remotely wrestling intellectual discussion. Instead, watch a TED talk or something more meaningful than spending any amount of time pondering on what some incredibly idiotic ditz has to say.  Have some respect for yourself. Honestly, engaging someone like this a waste of your time. Rather than trying to prove how dumb they are, take that effort and place it elsewhere. Pursue the words and readings of someone actually worth listening to. We’ll all be better for it.
